[chirp_users] UV-B5 upload with "Radio NAK'd block at address 0x0000"
I've seen some other postings about higher addresses failing, but none about block 0 failing.
This is a "27 menu" model of the uv-b5.
Downloading works fine.

I've tried uploading both modified and completely unmodified images to the radio. All fail with the same "Radio NAK'd block at address 0x0000" error.

A bit more info:
After resetting the uv-b5 via the startup menu (hold menu and power on), I was able to:
- download an image - partially upload that same image (Ended with "Radio NAK'd block at address 0x0f00"
After doing this, the radio:
- no longer accepts new images (appears in the same state as it was before) - displays a lock icon on the display - doesn't appear to let me get back to the initialization menu

And the version read back from the radio after reuploading:

Strangely, after resetting, reading and attempting programming a few more times, this particular radio has now started accepting uploaded configuration reliably (with the expected NAK at 0x0f10).
Not sure what the actual issue here was, sorry about the mailing list noise.

What you are experiencing now is normal. The 0x0f10 position of the upload is where the transfer of the "service settings" begins. The latest radios don't honor the service settings any longer and stop "nak"ing the upload at that point. This is near the end of the upload. All of the channels and settings have been uploaded so this "error" can safely be ignored.
If you what the upload using the OEM software, you will see progress bar "jump" when it reaches this point. The OEM software doesn't complain because it doesn't appear to look for the "nak" replies.

So the recently discovered capability to set custom squelch levels is no longer functional on some radios?
At what firmware level does this happen?

Yes and No.
The UV-B5/B6 which has had this ability from day one (about 2 years) has had the service settings removed from the radio in recent shipping units.
They UV-5R and variants like the UV-82 and BF-F8HP that recently had this capability added all still work fine as far as I know.

Yep, I'm aware. That's why I said "expected".
