Skip does work. Chirp really is good for this....I use a 5R on my desk to monitor local authorities and the highway crews (I work for Dept of Highways), and there are some stations like the continuous weather frequency that I give an ‘S’ in Chirp so that they’ll be skipped during Scan mode.

I'll try again but I was not able to make it work. The "S" was in the column of the channel I wanted to skip but it wouldn't skip it when I used the * to start a scan

I'm not super familiar with the "scan priority" feature but you might check to make sure that's not turned on for the channel you're trying to skip. Not sure what would happen if you're trying to skip the same channel you set as the priority scan channel.
