[chirp_users] FT8900R Upload Issue
I can download from the radio, but when I try and upload it errors > out. I
'm using the daily build from Feb 27th. The log should show > a successful download, followed by two upload attempts.
Hmm, that is kinda strange. The result of the upload attempt looks like there is zero communication with the radio.
Silly question: You are pushing the button on the radio to put it into RX mode _and_then_ clicking the OK button on CHIRP to initiate the upload, right?
The radio has to be "good and ready" before chirp starts the upload and so it needs to be not just in the clone menu, but in clone receive mode well in advance of CHIRP starting anything. --

Yes, the radio shows clone rx, before I hit ok. I'll try waiting longer with the radio in clone rx Before hitting ok.

Hmm, well, that should be good then. I'm just not sure what to think, given that it downloads just fine (and thus, is obviously communicating with the radio). The download code is shared among the 7800, 8800, and 8900 and I know for a fact of a few other folks using those radios with current builds.
I know this is as blasphemous of a request to you (a mac person) as it would be to me (a linux person), but do you have access to a windows machine to test with? It would just be good to show that the cable, radio, and code are all working on that well-tested platform and maybe narrow it down to an issue only when running on MacOS.
It looks like a Mac issue. The same radio and cable, works under Win 7 with the daily build from the 27th. It's a pain to use Windows. I don't have good setup for running Windows on my laptop. Are there any more debug options for use with the Mac?

Okay, well, that's a much easier issue to work :)

In the next day or so I'll try to reproduce this on my system and see how it goes. If you could create an issue on the website tracker to make sure I don't forget, that would be great.

So, I'm able to download and upload on MacOS to my FT-7800. I'm using a regular Prolific USB-serial adapter with the OSX-PL2303 driver.
I'm not sure what to say, but it seems at this point like it now must be some interaction between your cable and the driver. Have you tried the official Prolific drivers?
I'm able to upload about 1 out of 3 times with the official Prolific drivers and the Open Source drivers. I don't plan on changing the memories much, so I'll just live with it. Neither driver seems to make a big difference on the reliability. It could be the cable.

Hmm, okay, interesting. I'll go try a bunch of times with mine and see if I ever see a spurious failure.
After the USB adapter, I'm using a (well-)homebuilt TTL converter and custom cable to the radio.
