Program version in Windows registry
Once again - I KINDLY REQUEST to add a parameter to the installer for Windows that will add an entry to the registry about the installed version of the program. Am I asking too much? The installer needs to add the registry subkey to make it fully compatible with package managers like winget, which would be able to show the correct (not "unknown") version of the currently installed program, and users will be able to determine their program's version and possibly upgrade to the new version. Then I will be able to automate the process of winget's repo PR and everything will work. I just want to make CHIRP-next easier to update for users who use package managers for Windows systems - why are you so hostile towards me? Banned Redmine account for reporting a bug (YES - IT IS A BUG! Almost EVERY program has its version registry subkey in the Windows system!) and trying to get you to finally put this parameter in the .exe installer? C'mon! I just want to help, but I need your help in the first place. Isn't that what open source is all about? Helping each other to make software better? Sam - you rejected bug #10163 (the one I supposedly "duplicated") completely unreasonably, because it is the developer's job to make the installer work properly! Please remember - the WinGet package manager is an open source project. I love Linux and hate how MS treats Windows, but why so much passive aggression towards Windows users? Because I can't think of any other way to explain your attitude. Best wishes! 73! SP9RF
