[chirp_users] RaspberryPI
Hi, Can Chirp be installed on a RaspberryPI, and if so, is there a script available for installing the dependencies? Thanks.

Hi Glenn,
Yes. I have attached my notes that I used for installing the CHIRP Snap application on my Raspberry Pi model 3B. These notes were derived from the information on this page: https://snapcraft.io/install/chirp-snap/raspbian
I just updated my RPi 3 to have the new build released today: CHIRP daily-20220726.

Hi Jim & All, Maybe you or another Linux user can advise: I followed the steps in the link, did the update, installed snap, rebooted, and when I ran the sudo snap install core part, the system could not find snap, like it is not installed. I also tried the chirp part: sudo snap install chirp-snap --edge and I got the same, indicating it couldn't find a command snap. So I did the install snap command again, and it came back with the date of snap and stated it was already the latest version. So the apt install says it's installed, but the snap program can't seem to run. I'm doing this over SSH. Glenn

I don't know. I just updated the CHIRP running on my RPi 3 this morning and all went well.
I suppose I could flash another microSD card and try it over SSH to see what happens.

Hi All, I looked over the install instructions again, and it refers to snapd not snap It's impossible to hear the d in snapd with a screenreader. Looks like it installed, I just need to dig out a keyboard and run the desktop to try it out. It sounds like a PATH issue, the directory you installed snap into must not be in your path, that defines where Linux looks for executables.
I wonder if logging out and back in would cause your updated PATH to be used? I'm certain you can update PATH without logging out and back in, but the command eludes needs at the moment.

You need to reboot *after* updating snap, in case the update changes the location of the executable.

Hi All, Anyone here have any idea on why after installing Chirp on the Raspberrypi that I lost use of keyboard input? The page suggests a command to ensure Chirp has access to the USB cable, and I wonder if that would cause it to not allow any other USB device. When I doover SSH: lsusb the keyboard shows up. The snap command was something like: sudo snap connect chirp-snap:raw-usb
Thanks for any assistence.

Hi Glenn - try connecting again to the pi but from a new terminal.
The first terminal connection is probably blocking.
In other words, use the snap-connect command from one terminal and then connect again using a a normal ssh connection.
The keyboard is probably still there.

Hi, I'll try that. I am also using an audio hat, and I think all the power from the power supply is used in the board and the audio hat, which I have connected to the GPIO pins. So I'm able to use it without the audio hat. I hadn't thought of trying that from another terminal.
