[chirp_users] [CHIRP] #106: Open saved files with in CHIRP
#106: Open saved files with in CHIRP -----------------------------------------------------+---------------------- Reporter: Dan Robertson <dan.my.studio@…> | Type: Bug Status: new | Priority: Functionality Milestone: | Component: Import/Export Version: 0.1.11 | Keywords: Platform: Windows | -----------------------------------------------------+---------------------- I am finding that when I go to Open on the File menu, my files don't appear. Example: I saved an IMG of my radio to my desktop. Then I go to File>Open Navigate in the explorer window to desktop, Verify it is looking for .IMG files and none appear. I can, however, double click on the file that is on the desktop and tell it to open in CHIRP and it does. Is this something that needs attention or am I missing some important set up or step?

Are these actually .IMG or .img files? I just tried to reproduce this on Windows and I can't. I see .img files while browsing just fine.

Replying to [comment:1 kk7ds]:

on Windows and I can't. I see .img files while browsing just fine. These are files that are saved from with in CHIRP. Looking at the properties of the files that were saved by CHIRP, there is no file type suffix. Let me see if I am failing to indicate the type of file it is when I save it.

Further testing shows an interesting thing. First when I go to File>Save as, it doesn't give me any options for choosing file type. Also if I try to force an extension like .img it gives me the error "file name not valid" Second, I tried "exporting" the file as a .chirp file, it gives me the error "there was an error during export: Unable to calculate the required tuning step for 852.18700"

Additionally, I can change the file name after it is saved on the desktop to include the .img after it and it will be seen by the program.

Hmm, and this is on the 05022011 daily build, on Windows, is that right? If I open an image, go to File->Save, type just "test", it saves it as test.img. If I go right back to File->Open, I see my image immediately...

Yes, this is the 05022011 daily build. Interestingly enough, now I am unable to even do a save. Here are the steps and what is happening. File>New, File>Save As, the dialog pops up, I type in "test" in the File name field, There are no options under "save as type:" I click "save" I get an error pop up that says: Test The file name is not valid.

I just tried the same thing but this time I downloaded from the radio, clicked File->Save As, put in the name "test" and still got the same error.

I guess I should change this to saving files rather than opening files. The issue actually appears to be with trying to save files. I will get screen shots of what I am seeing when the dialog boxes open. So far I have tried completely removing the file associated with the program and reinstalling. Do I have to have an original version of the program in first before doing the daily build?

OK here are the screen shots. They are saved as word docs. If you need a different file type (.odt or PDF) let me know.

Oh-kay, I see very clearly now. This must be due to Windows Vista/7 (whatever it is you're running). I'll have to get access to one of those types of systems and see if I can figure out why it's doing that. Stay tuned :)

I am running Vista Home Premium 64bit service pack 2 on a dell studio laptop. Hope that helps. If I knew what to look for or how to look for it, I would help you out. I am pretty good with computers but not that good yet. Still learning.

Comment (by Dan Robertson <dan.my.studio@…>):
Oh, also. I was able to fool it into saving a file for me by putting in a recognized by windows file type (IE .jpg) then after it was saved changing the extension to .img On top of that I got it to save the export as a .csv by just putting that as part of the file name and it opened fine in open office and looks like a good format. I haven't tried making changes and importing it yet.

Comment (by kk7ds):
I put a temporary workaround in yesterday that will use the GTK open/save boxes instead of the native Windows ones (on 7/Vista) for the time being. This should allow you to operate normally, although the boxes may look a little foreign to you. If you could try today's daily and let me know, I'd appreciate it.
Thanks!

The GTK save boxes worked perfectly for my situation. I did a test save and a test export. Both worked as they should. I am OK with the GTK version as I also have a Ubuntu desktop that I built so I am familiar with these boxes.

Okay, great! I'm going to close this just for the sake of cleanliness and will try to figure out the underlying issue when I get access to a Vista/7 box.
Thanks!

I get an error when trying to install the latest daily build. It says: NSIS Error
Installer integrity check has failed. Common causes include incomplete download and damaged media. Contact the installer's author to obtain a new copy. More information at: http://nsis.sf.net/NSIS_Error
I have tried re-downloading the installer and I get the same error each time.

Yikes, indeed. Looks like the copy of the installer file up to that machine failed in some way. I just re-published and verified the checksum so it should be good to re-download now.

OK I just tried the latest build (daily-05092011) and got an error message telling me to check a log file. The log file said the following:
Traceback (most recent call last): File "chirpw", line 27, in <module> File "chirpui\mainapp.pyo", line 35, in <module> File "chirp\directory.pyo", line 21, in <module> File "chirp\vx6.pyo", line 18, in <module> ImportError: cannot import name vx6_ll Traceback (most recent call last): File "chirpw", line 27, in <module> File "chirpui\mainapp.pyo", line 35, in <module> File "chirp\directory.pyo", line 21, in <module> File "chirp\vx6.pyo", line 18, in <module> ImportError: cannot import name vx6_ll
I am going to check the next older one now. (daily-05072011) That one opens and doesn't give me an error. It also works for saving files, opening files, reading the radio, exporting and importing and writing to the radio with the proper masking happening.

Comment (by kk7ds):
Hmm, I really thought that I had fixed this back in changeset:975, but I was able to reproduce the XP/7 differences. Not sure what I was (or wasn't) thinking before, but I just ran changeset:1094 in both side-by- side and they now both do the right thing. Let me know if tomorrow's build doesn't look right.
Thanks!
