I just used Chiro for the first time with my Yaesu VX-170. After a few false starts, it took off and read the radio. I did a few tweeeks to the data and had to carefully read the info to get it to write back to the radio. Once all the right button were pressed it wrote my data back to the radio. I'll be sure to use chirp and will not be a novice too much longer.
