[chirp_users] limitations of baofeng uv-5r
The default settings for Baofeng uv-5r include the following ranges:
130 - 176 (VHF) 400 - 520 (UHF)
However, I was able to successfully raise the VHF range to 130 - 225. I did not attempt to go higher than 225 as I wanted to cover HAM frequencies in my area.
After raising the limit of VHF in Other Settings, I was able to manually program a range of fm simplex frequencies through the radio itself.
However, CHIRP does not allow me to program the 135cm band into memory, and states that it is out of supported range for this radio. I am able to download these modifications from the radio, but I cannot modify through CHIRP.
Can this limit be raised in the driver?
For verification I was able to tx from one uv-5r to another on 223.580 simplex.
maybe they were both actualy on the top limit of 176?? you should try with a radio that has 223 within its limit to make sure

Whenever modifying radios like this, it is prudent to use a spectrum analyzer to verify the radio is on frequency, has no spurious emissions, and the harmonics are significantly filtered. A second modified radio can't adequately verify any of these.
