[chirp_users] Question About Chirp and Baofeng
Hi
I am trying to figure out how to configure the Baofeng using Chirp. I see that the preloaded lists have a Tuning Step, but I do not see this column in the image for the Baofeng.
I programed a lot of channels, but I still am not sure how to get this to scan all the frequencies, or if I am missing a config, or checking for an accurate config.
Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks
Michael
Michael,
You really need to provide a bit more detail:
- what radio model? - what version of Chirp - new or 'classic'? - what are you trying to do? - what have you tried that didn't work, etc?

Hi Ken
Thank you. I am a new radio user, trying to figure out how to program and scan channels. I have programmed quite a few manually, and finally can see the programming in Chirp. But I don’t see the Tuning Step column. The stock configs show this column.
It’s a Baofeng BF-F8HP I just updated to Chirp-Next from the file chirp-next-20230711.app.zip for Mac (I was using an earlier version of Chirp prior to this when I sent the original email)
I cross referenced one of the GMRS lines and see a difference in the mode, but I am unsure of the tuning step since I cannot see that column from the Baofeng image.
I appreciate your very quick response!

The preloaded list (Stock Config file) are all CSV files. They are not for any particular radio so they are generic.
When programming a Baofeng radio (and many others, as well) the Tuning Step is handled internally within CHIRP. There is no need for the user to set this value so it doesn't appear in the tab specific for your model.
The STEP setting the radio's menu is only needed when entering frequencies into the raido's VFOs. The frequency being entered must be compatible with the currently selected STEP value or the frequency will either be rounded to the down to the next compatible frequency or rejected depending on the model being programmed.
I programed a lot of channels, but I still am not sure how to get this to scan all the frequencies, or if I am missing a config, or checking for an accurate config.
If the Skip field is blank, the memory will be scanned. If the Skip field contains an "S", the memory will be skipped when scanning.
Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks
Michael

Hi Jim
Thank you, that makes sense.
