[chirp_users] UV-17R Pro GPS - Toggle between Name and Frequency
Is there any way on the UV-17 Pro GPS HT to toggle between the Name and the Frequency in MEMORY entries?

In CHIRP under settings, you can change the channel A/B display type to "name", "frequency", or "channel type".

Is there a way to change without having to use CHIRP? In other words, can it be changed in a radio menu selection?

In this radio, it is a per-channel setting. So in the radio you find it in the Program Chann menu.
[MENU] -> Program Chann -> CH-MDF
The choices are: NAME, FREQ and CH
This setting is not currently supported in CHIRP.

It doesn’t seem to be per channel selection (Channel, Freq, Name). Once you set that then ALL the memories revert to that selection (Channel, Freq, Name). Getting closer....

You are correct. I made an assumption based on the menu group that the setting was in. It turns out to be global for the active display line when the setting is changed. Now that I realize that the setting is actually global, I see that it is supported by CHIRP as a global setting.
Settings -> Basic Settings -> Channel A display type Settings -> Basic Settings -> Channel B display type
