[chirp_users] Using premade cvs or execl spreadsheet
Good morning, MERRY CHRISTMAS. In programming my Baofengs, I'm wondering how to convert pre done lists into the chirp to download to the radios.
Sent from my Verizon Motorola Smartphone
You type them in to the Chirp editor.

To expand on Nigel's advice, enter a few known to be working channels into the CHIRP spreadsheet style memory editor. Export these channels to a CSV file. The CSV file saved from CHIRP is now your template for how a CSV file must be formatted to be compatible with CHIRP.

Because of a known issue with MS Excel, I never recomment the use of spreadsheets with Chirp.

I'm not sure which issue you're referring to, but there are many alternatives to Excel, whether you're using Windows, Mac or Linux. It seems unlikely that all of them have the same problem.

For some reason when Excell encounters a series of commas (which is typical as shown in the example below), it can drop one or more commas.
0,WXM78,162.450000,off,0.000000,,88.5,88.5,023,NN,FM,5.00,S,,,,, 1,EMA NET,155.025000,off,0.000000,,88.5,88.5,023,NN,NFM,5.00,,,,,, 2,FD DSP,154.995000,off,0.000000,,88.5,88.5,023,NN,NFM,5.00,,,,,,
Unfortunately when this happens, all of the data from that point on is shifted into the wrong column and CHIRP becomes upset. This does not happen in other spreadsheet programs like LibreOffice Calc and Apache Open Office Calc.

I thought the issue was more easily summarised as Excel truncates empty fields at the end-of-line. I always wondered why the solution wasn't for Chirp to respect EOL as a field (column) reset, as Excel obviously does?
Is that not right or just a gross oversimplification?

Several have reported that Excel can insert extra random characters into empty cells which Chirp then rejectd. I use Libre Office which seems OK. The other problem is people having difficulty getting the columns and their labels in the right order.
Safer to stick to the Chirp editor.
