[chirp_users] programming assistance
hi, I'm new to this handheld scene. Been using a CB but our group wants to switch to GMRS. Anyway the "radio enthusiast" that is helping out by programming everyone's radio provided a csv file. However he's using RTSystems to program them so the columns don't match. I asked him about it, but he states he is unfamiliar with Chirp and doesn't know how to line them up (I sent him the column headers from the Chirp img file, but I think he ignored it. I would think it wouldn't be too hard for a radio guy to rearrange the columns.). He says I can bring the radio to the next meeting and he will program it. I thought about that, since then I could download it with Chirp and figure it out myself. But I don't really want to wait until the next meeting. Anyone could help me line up the columns if I provide the csv? (is it ok to share a radio csv?, I figure it's all just freqs that have labels added so the user knows what channel is what)
Thanks in advance

Hi Bobby,
There is a Memory Editor Columns guilde available in the CHIRP documentation area.
In addition to the csv file, knowing which radio you are intending to program would be helpful.

img files are for particular radios, you need an original img file for YOUR particular radio. You start by downloading the img file from your radio and saving it so you have something to go back to if something fails.
csv files are just spreadsheet files - you can edit them with LibreOffice (don't use Excel as it's not compatible with CHIRP).

maybe I wasn't clear. I have a Baofeng UV-5R8W
The person that gave me the csv file is using RTSystems software to program the radios. I understand that I would need to import the csv file to my radio to create a new *.img file. I saw there is a Memory Column guide, but if the terms in Chirp columns aren't the same as in his columns I'm not sure about them. My problem is when I download my existing, factory img file the column names don't match the column names in his csv file and I don't know enough yet to line them up properly. I get some of the common ones, Name,Freq,Comment,Step,Power but I don't want to guess and brick the radio. (also I checked the options available in drop downs and they are close but not the same, like I see DTCS and he has a column DCS) This is a snip of the csv Channel Number Receive Frequency Transmit Frequency Offset Direction Name Tone Mode CTCSS Rx CTCSS DCS Scan Add Comment 21 462.7 462.7 Simplex GMRS-21 None 100.0 Hz 100.0 Hz 23 Scan GMRS-21 22 462.725 462.725 Simplex GMRS-22 None 100.0 Hz 100.0 Hz 23 Scan GMRS-22 23 151.505 151.505 Simplex EVENT W DCS 100.0 Hz 100.0 Hz 411 Scan TOJC -1 WRYN698 / JWJ EVENT WIDE / CHAIRPERSON 24 151.5125 151.5125 Simplex STAGE-1 DCS 100.0 Hz 100.0 Hz 411 Scan TOJC - 2 WRYN698 / JWJ STAGING CH-1 25 151.625 151.625 Simplex STAGE-2 DCS 100.0 Hz 100.0 Hz 411 Scan TOJC - 3 WRYN698 / JWJ STAGING CH-2 26 151.7 151.7 Simplex TALK DCS 100.0 Hz 100.0 Hz 411 Scan TOJC - 4 WRYN698/ JWJ TALK AROUND 27 151.7 No Transmit UN-USED T Sql 103.5 Hz 103.5 Hz 23 Scan UNUSED / RESERVED 28 151.76 151.76 Simplex RECOVER DCS 100.0 Hz 100.0 Hz 411 Scan TOJC - 5 WRYN698 / JWJ RECOVERY 29 151.82 151.82 Simplex JWJ-1 None 100.0 Hz 100.0 Hz 23 Scan M.U.R.S.
