i downloaded CHIRP daily-20151005 and noticed that there's no BF-A58 in the list of radios. i was able to download the data using the BF-F8HP radio for my BF-A58. if i uploaded the data using the BF-F8HP radio, will i brick my BF-A58 and ruin it for good? fyi i just got it today and haven't used it yet.

The BF-A58 is a variant of the BF-F8HP. BF-F8HP is the correct model selection (see the "Supported Radio Models" list on the CHIRP home/wiki page).

So are you saying that I can upload the frequency data to the BF-A58 using the BF-F8HP variant and it won't brick my radio.

Yes, it is safe.
They are the same radio in a different case.

Chito,
Always download the contents of your radio the first time you connect it to Chirp. Save that in a safe place then make your modification to the downloaded image then upload the revised image back to the radio.
Be careful not to overwrite the original downloaded copy.
It's really easy if you follow these few steps every time to use Chirp with a new radio.
Best, Tom
