[chirp_users] Using The Keyboard On Radio List
Hey Group, I'm sure most folks here use Chirp with the computer's mouse or touchpad, but there is an annoying thing with the keyboard, and I'm hoping those who develop Chirp might be able to address this, and I wonder if it is annoying to others. I wouldn't call it a bug, because I'm guessing most users haven't experienced it. But in the radio model list, when I'm down arrowing to find my model, a dialog pops for every model, and reads: Experimental driver Tested and mostly works, but may give you issues when using lesser common radio variants. Proceed at your own risk, and let us know about issues! Do not prompt again for Yaesu FT-25R OK
* So this dialog is okay, but in prior Chirps, it only popped up once you selected your model and clicked okay. I'm guessing that most people typically just roll their pointer to the model and then get that message just one time. But when your model is 10 models down the list, it is quite annoying to have to uncheck the box and then okay. Can this dialog be moved to after the okay is clicked on a model, like it was before? What do others think? Thanks.

After you tab to the model list, hit the space bar or the enter key before you arrow up or down. You will like it.

Well, it turns out to be the difference between linux and Windows. Works fine in linux.

Hi W Paul, True enough. I should have mentioned that I experience this in Windows. Chirp has always been a better experience with a screenreader in Linux, excluding the flatpack era.

People should write clearly so later people can figure out what they meant.
"Chirp has always been a better experience with a screenreader in Linux, excluding the flatpack era."
Can you be clearer about this?
Are you saying that when CHIRP is installed with flatpack the screen reader works poorly or that it doesn't work at all?
Rate the screen reader performance under Windows and specify the screen reader used.
Rate the screen reader performance under LINUX before flatpack and specify the screen reader used.
Rate the screen reader performance under LINUX after flatpack and specify the screen reader used.
Thanks,
David N1EA

LOL, I should have written, the lack of experience with flatpack. I couldn't get flatpack to work at all, hence no Chirp. But when using Chirp in Linux, everything works as expected with the screenreader and the keyboard interaction. But in windows, even it is better than it used to be, since Chirp went Python3, it still has some issues, like not reading the cells with the PC cursor, if you want to access a cell in the memory page, you have to find it with the Jaws cursor, and route the PC cursor to it. Same with the various things in the settings window. But at least now we can access the pull-down menus and they read real-time, and the issue with the warning thing popping up on every model you cursor over is the only problem in the menus. But I'm not optimistic these things will be addressed, since most Chirp users are sighted and don't use just the keyboard. Glenn ----- Original Message ----- From: D.J.J.
