Greetings,
A new daily build of CHIRP is available. This includes changes made directly to the tree yesterday, and may include additional features, bug fixes, and/or bugs. If you are interested in trying it, grab it from the following location:
http://trac.chirp.danplanet.com/chirp_daily/daily-20190227
A list of the changes included in this build (since the last daily) follows:
Changes for Build #562 [Dan Smith dsmith@danplanet.com] Fix Wouxun KG-UVD1P steps
Fixes #6509
[Dan Smith dsmith@danplanet.com] Fix tuning step exposure on UV-5X3
Fixes #6501
[Dan Smith dsmith@danplanet.com] Fix the bjuv55 driver mangling the uv5r driver's list of steps
This driver was importing and then mangling the uv5r.STEPS variable, which made it incorrect for use in get_features(). This patch makes it copy the list before doing so.
Fixes: #6503
Well said Gary and I also add my appreciation for all the hard work that the team do 73's Bernie2E0NCI

Hey Gang, Well, still a new-bee here and learning things. I have a question. I recently purchased the Baofeng UV-5V back in early Jan. It’s a long story but, in short, the charge light on the charger would never indicate a full charge. The Ebay dealer would not honor any attempts to reconcile the issue. So, I sent the whole thing back for a refund. But, while it was in my possession, I managed, with the great help from you Chirp folks, to download Chirp and just barely begin to learn how to apply it to my radio(s).
Well, I’d cloned my Baofeng to Chirp which, downloaded a few frequencies that a buddy had graciously installed on my radio, using his Chirp. Those frequencies are now in my Chirp. But, here’s the deal. Since I sent that Baofeng back, I’d just received the latest model of the Baofeng UV-5R 8 watt unit. I want to clone my Chirp stored frequencies to that new model I just got.
Do any of you see any issues doing this? I’m new at this and, hope I don’t screw something up either in the radio or, the Chirp stored frequencies. The last time I tried to use Chirp, I tired to install the National Simplex Frequency and, name it. When I hit store, NO NAME was there. I tried it a few times and each time, it would not store with the name I applied to that frequency. Anyway, what say you all on my plan? Scott

What I would do is download from new radio And move stuff over from the other. You can have two profiles open at the same time, and it’s super easy to copy and paste the radio frequencies between the two. As far as the settings go you will just have to see and maybe do one setting at a time.
Also, some radios actually do use the same Chirp default profile. After you download from radio and save a new profile, just try uploading the other one. I don’t think you could hurt anything by trying that.

Hi Scott,
You won't be able to directly upload the image from your original radio to the one you currently have. But once you've made your first successful download from your radio and saved and unedited copy to be kept in a safe place as a backup, you can load your saved image from from the original radio and use copy-and-paste to transfer the memory rows between tabs.
A more thorough method (the one I prefer because it transfers more settings) is to import the image of the previous radio into a tab for the new radio. A guide for doing this can be found here.
