Re: [chirp_users] OS-X 10.8.5 and RTS cable for VX7
I use RTS software and cables with no problems. I have the VX-2,VX8-GR! and cables and the FT-950 cable. Why mess with something else that you have to be a c++engineer to get to work.

I've been helping out a gal off list with her Mac and RTS cable. She had posted one message to the list yesterday if you want to read her synopsis. In addition she has emailed me back several times as I had her run some diagnostics and wanted to view her kernel messages. Kernel message says the FTDI chip load ok. But when she's getting hard locks on read requiring a long press on the power button to get a reboot. Some other things are a bit vague but I will attempt to re-read.
What I'm looking for is a person or persons who use the latest OSX and an RTS cable so I can see a driver version. Another funny thing, she said the system info finds the driver just fine. And it loads in the kenel message. But that driver can't be found in the Chirp list of cables. I though that was a bit odd and thanks for any help.

Thanks for the help and suggestions. Milton has been very helpful. We have yet to solve the problem. I am on a Mac OSX 10.8.5. I am using the RTS cable but cannot use the software with my Mac, that is why I am hopeful that Chirp will be the solution. Chirp recognizes the cable when I attempt to download/upload to my VX7R, but… it stalls out on download and my HT jumps out of Clone Rx mode to VFO 430.000 and Chirp freezes. Chirp successfully downloaded 100+ frequencies with names, tones, etc off of my radio onto my computer. Now my radio is empty. These programs were all painstakingly hand programed. Milton and I have been problem-solving, but have yet to understand why the cable will download from my radio, and not upload. Any other suggestions for use of cables with Mac OSX would be appreciated and if you would like to contact me off the list, please do.

Just to clarify, Download from my VX7R to Chirp works flawlessly. Uploading back to radio is the problem.

Maybe you have tried this. Can you download from the radio, then upload with no changes made to the file?

Just thought I would throw this into the mix.
I am a OS 10.8.5 user as well and use chirp in combination with a Baofeng UV 5R with the cable supplied. I have also installed the driver suggested on this thread. I had some issues with uploading and downloading from the radio i.e. error messages. I persisted and worked out the trick (in my case anyhow) Plug the leads into the radio and PC select upload or download select your Port (driver) vendor and model and as you click on OK switch the radio on at the same time.
Works every time
