I use this combination on Snow Leopard. I'd expect it to work the same on Lion.

Are you using Chirp 0.2.2 or one of the daily builds this month? The D72 driver was broken in earlier versions.

Note that the Kenwood detect model feature will not detect the D72; you have to select D72 from the model dropdown.
