[chirp_users] Data changes from "Upload" to "Download"
Wonder why the data I upload to my radio is changed when it downloads. Specially: When I upload the tone of 100 MHz, when downloaded from the radio, the 100 MHZ is changes to 88.5 MHz. Also the Tone Mode changes from Tone to TSQL? Why is that?

Rick,
You would probably understand what is going on better if you click on View and enabled "Hide Unused Fields".
When Tone Mode is set to Tone, only the Tone column is used. You set the Tone column frequency to 100.0 and leave the ToneSql column set to the default 88.5 (it is ignored). When you press the PTT button a 100.0 Hz CTCSS tone is transmitted but no tone is required to open your receivers squelch. This is like setting menu 11 (R-CTCS) to OFF and menu 13 (T-CTCS) to 100.0 Hz.
When Tone Mode is set to TSQL, only the ToneSql column is used. You set the ToneSql column to 100.0 and leave the Tone column set to the default 88.5 (it is ignored). When you press the PTT button a 100.0 Hz CTCSS tone is transmitted. And when you receive a 100.0 Hz CTCSS tone is required to open the squelch of your radio. This is like setting menu 11 (R-CTCS) to 100.0 Hz and menu 13 (T-CTCS) to 100.0 Hz.
So if you are putting values into the unused columns, CHIRP will put them back to their default values (the value that all unused fields should have).
Take a look at these guides and examples: http://www.miklor.com/COM/UV_CHIRP.php#guides

Yes, with your explanation and the menu setting...makes sense. Thanks

I always assumed in TSql, both columns were in play, so as to deal with repeaters that might be running split-tone. Not so?

Both columns are used when CROSS is selected, if the radio supports different tones.

Not so. For split tone...
Tone Mode = Cross Cross Mode = Tone->Tone Tone = {tone for TX} ToneSql = {tone for RX}

i have 2 baofeng radios 1 is UV-5RA the other is UV-5RA+ they look a little different, but basically they are the same both show 297 as firmware ver when put on with 3 pressed only when read with chirp i can see that 1 is really 307 and the other is 311!
i cannot upload to one radio what i downloaded from the other because firmware versions are different! therefore i have to program each one seperately! which is preaty annoying!! i do not see any differace in data formation! if i remember right it was not like that on previous versions of chirp
when i use the radio to radio cloning cable it works well so it is weired that under chip it doesnt. did chirp programmers preferred giving us a hard time just to be on the safe side?? i will thank the one that will go through the trouble to check which firmware versions are actually compatible and allow uploading and which are not and do not allow it. i know it is easier to compare version numbers and decide. but i believe easy should be kept for the user not for the programmer. i really hope someone take the job. or at least tell me which older version of chip did not check the firmware version. or checked the wrong version field which shows 297 for both
what is the meaning of the message read with power on+6?

Since BFB299, the [3] key + Power-on message is no longer the "real" firmware version.

You can thank Baofeng for this.

Radio to radio cloning does not dump the whole memory of one radio into the other. The memory layouts between versions are not the same. The latest firmware versions have removed the radio-to-radio cloning because of the main memory layout changes.

It is a date. Your guess is as good as mine as to what it represents.
All you have to do is edit the "master' image for 1 radio and import it into the image of the other radios. I use the image from my 2012 UV-5R as my master image and import it into my BF-F8HP, UV-82, UV-82C, UV-82HP and Wouxun KG-UV6D.

i wish i had the capability to program even less complicated missions!! that's why i would thank someone who can..
can you please be more specific about the step by step stages to create a master image, edit it and import it. thanks

does the improvement from uv-5r to the 8W versions justify the extra buck?

Your master image is just your normal image. There is nothing different or special about it.
1. Download from radio 1 (or load a previously saved file from radio 1) 2. Edit the tab for radio 1 as needed 3. Save radio 1 tab to "radio1.img" 4. Close tab for radio 1 5. Download from radio 2 (or load a previously saved file from radio 2) 6. Click File 7. Click Import 8. Click button that says [CHIRP Files(*.chirp)] 9. Select "CHIRP Radio Images(*.img)" from the list 10. Locate and load "radio1.img" 11. Click the [OK] button
the radio 2 tab now has the channels from "radio1.img"
12. Upload radio 2 tab into radio 2
Now radio 2 has the same channels as radio 1
