[chirp_users] Baofeng UV-82HP and iMac
Sorry to be so dense but I need some help. I used to be able to have some fun with chirp but I've not been able to interact with my radios (baofeng UV-5RE Plus and UV-82HP) since getting a new computer. On an older computer and with an older cable I could access my UV-5RE fine but now I can’t get it to recognize anything.
So, I’ve got the latest build of chirp (20190511) I’m running on an iMac with OS 10.14.4 Mojave
When start up Chirp and try to download from radio (with the cable (newly purchased as I thought that might be the problem), turn the radio on max volume and hit the “OK” button, I immediately get an error message that reads:
“An error has occurred
could not open port /dev/cu.Bluetooth-PDA-Sync: [Errno 2] No such file or directory: '/dev/cu.Bluetooth-PDA-Sync’”
Where am I going wrong?

Hi Alan,
It seems to me you don't have a compatible device driver installed. You would not select anything with Bluetooth.

I was not even aware that connecting via bluetooth was an option. The cable is in a standard USB port. I’m not sure how to find or install a device driver (is that for the cable?).

are you using a Bluetooth connection from iMac and radio? If did you does not see the correct port on pop up menu, perhaps the driver for the cable is not installed correctly. Tell us more about the port you see on Chirp

How can I tell what port or what sort of port (in this case it doesn’t seem to detect any port)? Alan

Alan,
I know very little about iMac, but I believe I found a page that has helpful information: https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT201163
I've found good searching skills can find the most obscure information in a few minutes.

OK. This is very interesting and I’m learning a lot…. I can see the cable in the system report and I can move it to different USB ports and it moves in the report. When I disconnect all other devices there is still a default bluetooth USB port operating with the keyboard and track pad.
But, you’ve put me onto some good stuff. I’ll need to play around with this a bit more.
Thanks, Alan
