Greetings,
A new daily build of CHIRP is available. This includes changes made directly to the tree yesterday, and may include additional features, bug fixes, and/or bugs. If you are interested in trying it, grab it from the following location:
http://trac.chirp.danplanet.com/chirp_daily/daily-20121220
A list of the changes included in this build (since the last daily) follows:
Changes for Build #128 [Dan Smith dsmith@danplanet.com] Speed up tests by short-circuiting time.sleep()
Lots of the modules use sleep delays for timing clone responses and retries. This makes the tests run slowly. Instead, make time.sleep() return immediately.
#93
[Dan Smith dsmith@danplanet.com] [dj175] Add support for Alinco DJ175
Fixes #186
[Dan Smith dsmith@danplanet.com] [uv5r] Add per-band enable/disable flag setting
This is speculative, based on some work done by KC9HI, and may help mitigate the issue with #344.
[Dan Smith dsmith@danplanet.com] [uv5r] Fix settings on newer firmware radios
This makes adjustments to the way we fetch the band limits, which changed from the older firmware to the newer firmware. It also is more tolerant of the ANI code being short, which is a known issue in CHIRP.
Related to #314
I just installed this new build on Win7Pro 64-bit. When I tried to read my UV-5R+ (BFB293 firmware) it appeared to do the read, but then gave me an error message reading "An error has occurred | Value 10 not in range 0-5". On a hunch, I went to menu 6 on my radio--the backlight timer setting--and changed it from 10 to 5. (BFB293 allows a maximum backlight setting of 10) After that, the new CHIRP build read the radio without a problem.
Very pleased to see the settings tab re-enabled for the newer firmware versions! Thanks!

Please open an issue for this and I'll get it fixed.
Thanks!
If it said "Value 10 ....." why did you immediately suspect it was Menu #6 causing the problem?

Because the baofeng_uv5r group had been discussing within the last day or two that is was discovered that the menu 6 selection was expanded from 5 to 10 with the release of BFB293. Alan probably changed the setting withing the last day or so and remembered the 5 to 10 change.
Research today discovered that 2 other menus have also been changed (menu 1 and menu 20). I'll bet selecting one of the new menu 1 settings via the keypad will cause similar errors to be encountered when downloading into CHIRP.

There had been some discussion of the subject on the UV-5R Yahoo list. Older versions of the UV-5R firmware only allowed a maximum of 5 seconds for the backlight, newer versions have raised it to 10. My radio was set for 10 seconds, as it's one of the newer firmware versions.
I wouldn't call it "immediate"...it took a few minutes of cogitating...

Aha! I wasn't aware of the previous discussion and I thought there must have been some psychic powers at work here. ;)
