Pardon my question if it’s been beat to death but I couldn’t find it in the archives. I’m trying to program my radio and I’m not able to download from the radio into chirp. The radio and my computer are not communicating. Here are a series of screen shots that I hope can help diagnose the issue.
The first is the list of ports available(I don’t think the USB port is listed)
The second is the error screen I get when I try any of the ports listed.
The third is the USB section of my ‘system information’ utility that seems to show the USB to stereo mini plug cable connected.

Rich, It looks like you have a Prolific USB to serial interface, but it does not show up in the CHIRP list. Did you install the Prolific driver before starting CHIRP?

I did. I went to the Prolific website and downloaded the driver. Had to restart computer and then launched chirp. Connected radio both while off(then powered radio up) and on.

Rich-- This may not be any help at all, but I have noticed that the USB plug on my cord does not fit well in the port. I'm used to pushing USB plugs in solidly until they stop with no problem. That doesn't work with my USB patch cord, and I get the Com-port error message when trying to read the radio. The solution, for me, has been to back the USB plug out one micromillimeter at a time until it makes proper contact. Turn the volume up on your sound so that you can here Windows positve-contact sound when contact is made. Or, you can carefully push it in one micromillimeter at a time until Windows makes the positive contact sound. This may not work for you, but it worked for me. jan/klamath falls, Oregon

Rich,
I will be watching this thread with interest as I am suffering the same, running mac OS 10.12.6 Cable works fine on a late model Windows machine but I have tried everything I can find on the net without success on my Mac.
Think we are suffering from an industry of counterfeit and copy cats verses legit vendors trying to lock the others out!
Good Luck, and keep us posted !
