[chirp_users] Chirp and Icom IC-7200
Ok so I am wanting to use chirp to upload memories to my Icom IC-7200 Amateur Radio. Now the IC-7200 has a USB and a CIV connection. My understanding is that the USB should work, But I cannot seem to get it to work. I do not have a CIV cable. So does anyone have any experience with the IC-7200? Can I use the USB connection to upload memories? Or am I going to need a CIV cable? Thanks Bill
Ok got an answer to my question. Yes you can upload memories using USB. So the problem appears to be with Chirp? It will not read from the radio. Anyone with any experience using Chirp with an IC-7200? Trying to make this work. Thank You in advance for your help Bill

So I am getting the following message when downloading from radio.
"The Icom 7200 operates in live mode. This means that any changes you make are immediately sent to the radio. Because of this, you cannot perform the Save or Upload operations. If you wish to edit the contents offline, please Export to a CSV file, using the File menu."
It seems to recognize that there are 199 memories. And the columns change to only show Frequency, Mode and Tune Step. But it is not pulling any Freq info off of the radio. I currently have about 20 or so memories filled on the radio.
So everything is greyed out in the main window. I try to File-->Export. It asks for me to name the file. Then the "Export to File" window pops up. Everything is greyed out there too. When I click OK the "Export to File" window just goes away. It does not make a CSV file? So the program will not export anything to CSV. I am assuming because there is nothing to export because Chirp is not getting that info from the radio. I am at a loss at the moment. If anyone has any idea what to do here I would greatly appreciate it. Thank You Bill

It has been hit and miss for me. When it does work it loads all the memories I have already stored as FM mode and I can't change it. I've been meaning to fix it but haven't had a chance yet.

First bunch of test done, I have some detail: - 7200 is (supposed to be) supported - communication through usb cable is possible, no need for serial CIV interface - chirp can recognize 7200 during icom autodetect, this confirm it can communicate with radio - it does not get any answer from radio when requesting memories
So, yes sir we have a bug.
I start debugging this now, please open a bug issue on chirp site in this while so we can trace it.

Marco,
I made several recent changes to the Icom CI-V driver and probably introduced the bug. I have an IC-7000 and wasn't able to test my changes against an IC-7200.
Let me know what I can do.

Never mind Joseph, I'm already testing the patch.
It's the skip support BTW

Hi Bill you probably noticed that I updated the issue, the updated driver for 7200 should be included in next daily build. Other then just fix it I also added support for per memory digital flag and filter width, you'll find them in memory editor (right click on memory, properties -> "Other" tab)
During tests I had some communication problem with radio; to have a stable communication I had to set on radio CI-V BAUD RATE to 19200, when set to Auto it works inconsitently. Once you'll get the new version please try setting Auto and let me know if it works for you.

That was fast! Thank You Marco for fixing that so quickly. I was actually going to ask if the flags for filter width could be added. I was going to wait until the driver was fixed first. You beat me to it :) I will let you know how it works out. 73 Bill ke4wkp

Hi Marco I wanted to report back to you now that I have had a chance to try the chirp update. I am having no trouble with communication whether on Auto or 19200. Thank You again for fixing this issue. It make programming memories a lot easier. Bill

Bug issue reported Marco :)

First bunch of test done, I have some detail:
- 7200 is (supposed to be) supported
- communication through usb cable is possible, no need for serial CIV
interface
- chirp can recognize 7200 during icom autodetect, this confirm it can
communicate with radio
- it does not get any answer from radio when requesting memories
So, yes sir we have a bug.
I start debugging this now, please open a bug issue on chirp site in this while so we can trace it.

So it doesn't matter what I do it's not gonna work? The website says it supports the IC-7200? I am banging my head on the wall over here lol :) Bill

It has been hit and miss for me. When it does work it loads all the memories I have already stored as FM mode and I can't change it. I've been meaning to fix it but haven't had a chance yet.

Ok got an answer to my question. Yes you can upload memories using USB. So the problem appears to be with Chirp? It will not read from the radio. Anyone with any experience using Chirp with an IC-7200? Trying to make this work. Thank You in advance for your help Bill

Marco, Just so you know something has changed since the latest updates. I now have to put the radio in 19200 to get it to work. Not a big deal. I just wanted to let you know. Since you wanted my input. Thanks again Marco for your work on Chirp :) Bill
