I've been using the latest build for programming the FT-8800 over the last two weeks. No problem at all. For windows the only issue I've ever had is drivers being updated automatically for the programming cable. Do not allow Windows to do this!
Regards, Andy - G8NTH
Are you using Windows? In another thread, Jen seems to have narrowed the problem down to a change made in the 2013-10-31 build, that seems to affect only Windows, not Linux.

There was a new build notification in my mail box today. Give that a try.

Okay, I gave it a try. No joy, with either the FT-60 or FT-8800. Same "bad cable?" error. I have to go back to 2013-10-27 to find a build that doesn't generate this error.

Not surprising. The only changes to Chirp in the past week have been UV5R related. I'm not sure why Milton suggested trying last night's build. It says right in the build email message that the changes are for the UV5R.

I suggested the new build because it's been recommended hundreds of times in the past to do so. So Tom, please remove me from your revenge list. It seems every time you mention my name it's in an attempt to either discredit or make a fool of me. That must stop immediately.

I point out when you're wrong because I don't want the users of Chirp to be misled or misunderstand something. The quicker I correct it, the less likely everyone is to commit the wrong information to memory.
Blindly trying new builds isn't helpful. Looking at the change log to find specific changes that may affect your problem and trying builds on either side of that change *is* effective.

Ok thanks Basil. It sounds like my mod had something to do with it.
I'll check with the other developers to come up with a general solution and will work on this next week.

Sent from Yahoo Mail for iPad
