Re: [chirp_users] Baofeng UV-5R firmware upgrade?
WOW, really appreciate your comprehensive reply, now it's archived, so others hopefully can benefit.. Is that really true that since 2014 there have been newer firmware but no detected changes? or this list is out of date: http://www.miklor.com/uv5r/UV5R-Firmware.php
I'm trying to figure the best firmware to look for in a new purchase. Thanks.
Issues found in earlier models, such as band limits, incorrect DTMF pattern, Beep Bug, etc have been corrected. Since then, major issues have not been detected. If you purchase a relatively new radio, it should be bug free.

I have a new 5R, fw297. and i have a old listed bug on it that I thought was fixed. the chuntering noise from switching back to fm radio from a u/v freq.
it seems linked to changing the back light time in chirp, from 5secons to 15 seconds. putting back to 5s does not silence the chuff. only restoring a img backup does.

Neil, Reference item (2.7) at http://www.miklor.com/uv5r/UV5R-FAQ.php
Also, 297 does not necessarily mean new. 297 has been out for about 2 years. The actual firmware release can be found using CHIRP. http://www.miklor.com/uv5r/UV5R-FWRelease.php
I hope this assists.
