Re: [chirp_users] Frequency List
If one truly desires to be effective siring an emergency, they will contact their local and/or regional disaster preparedness agencies and get involved.

I'm having a problem programming the Baofeng UV-3R+. This is first time use, first attempt with new radio. I cannot download from the radio.
All I get is "Radio did not ACK first command."
I use this same programming cable with my UV-5R, and my Feidaxin radios too, without any problem. But I cannot get it to work with the UV-3R+
Same thing is happening when I use the Baofeng programming software. Can't find radio.
Any ideas? And yes, I already trimmed the connecter it in case that was the problem. Apparently not.

Richard, disconnect the antenna and turn on the squelch so you have NO audio. I've had audio output kill the download/upload

I would never recommend that anyone remove the antenna from a radio being programmed with a USB programming cable. Having an incompatible driver installed, not having the cable fully plugged into the radio and pulling the USB end of the programming cable out of the computer before removing the plug from the radio usually result in the radio going into TX mode. Transmitting without an antenna can damage the radio.
So if you must remove the antenna, replace it with a dummy load or tune to a TX inhibited channel if your radio supports TX inhibited channels.

I gave up trying to get the programming cable to work on my UV-3R+, so I ordered a replacement from Amazon. It arrived in ONE DAY! They sure are fast.
I just tried it with CHIRP and things went very well. Clearly something was not quite right with the first radio that will be back on it's way to Amazon in a few days. Thought you'd like to know.
I kind of like this little radio, and surprisingly it is really easy to program a repeater into it on the fly from the three buttons (only need two buttons) and one knob on it. Having heard many horror stories about programming Chinese HTs from the keypad (and I have had a few of them) I was not expecting this one to be so simple. But it is... really simple. I'm happy.

If none of the error messages here apply http://www.miklor.com/COM/UV_ErrorMess.php and the cable is snapped in all the way, I would plug in a remote Spkr/Micr to see it the jack on the radio is good.
