Hi everyone ! Just a quick note. I have the latest release version of chirp working OK with Windows 10 64bit on my desktop . There have been no issues so far with chirp while running windows 10 with either reading or transferring data to and from my GT-5 . I had to roll back the 3.6 driver to 3.2.2.0 that windows had initially installed . It was giving me a cannot start device error message. Once I rolled back the drivers there was no further issues. Ahhhhhhhh, Only problem is keeping it there. The MS is setting up "autoupgrade" with little or no user controlwho knows how long it will be stable. Kurt,
The trick is to not remove the device driver that is automatically installed. I have several Prolific driver versions installed on my Windows 7 64-bit computer and I can (and do) switch between them at will.

I was recently had by Microsoft "upgrading" my laptop from Win7 Pro to Win10 Pro, 64 bit OS. I had no idea I gave permission to "upgrade" my computer but did intend to upgrade it before the free upgrade period expired, so now have a lot of learning to do with the new OS.
My Chirp program has always worked with my USB to Serial Cable which I purchased from HRO several years ago and cost $20+. Now since the upgrade to Win10, my Chirp program no longer recognizes my attached radios to this cable. I have both Baofeng UV-5R+ and Wouxun KG-UV6X radios and have programmed many such radios in the past. Now I am stuck. I know about the Prolific Driver issue when a non-genuine chip is installed in the cable, but as far as I know, mine has the authentic Prolific chip since it has always worked in the past with my Win7 OS.
Checking my driver properties, it states: This device cannot start. (Code 10) A device which does not exist was specified.
My present installed driver for this device is: Prolific Driver date: 9/4/2015 Driver Version: 3.6.81.357 and it states I have the latest driver installed when I try to update the driver.
Any help in getting this working again, is appreciated. Keep in mind that I am a computer user and very savvy on how to make it all work so telling me to roll back the driver, is not enough. I would need step by step instructions.

Download 3.2.0.0. Run it. Go to device manager, pull up the info on the cable like you did before. Choose 'let me choose the driver', pick the 3.2.0.0. Always use the same physical USB port, otherwise your driver will be updated again.
Interesting how you say you are very savvy on how to make it work, but need step by step instructions. Hope this helps.

Ups, I forgot the NOT. Added it below to clarify my computer lack of knowledge......
Followed your instructions and rolled back the driver to Version 3.2.0.0, rebooted computer and all is well again. Thanks.
Still do not comprehend why I had to roll back the driver when I had the latest driver on Win7 OS and it worked just fine with my same cable. Oh well I will chalk it up to computer magic and am happy since Chirp is working again for me.....
Thanks,
Herb
