Hello
I am having a small issue I tries to program my UV5R with the frequencies of my job and I cannot transmit on them, all it does is receive my co-workers, but no transmit. On my repeaters it works fine. the frequencies in question are in the 161 MHZ and 162 MHZ range. I used the Baofeng Software, and did not work. So then I used the Chirp and was able to put it on the radio but again no transmit. Version on my radio is the older version. If there is any other software I can use to unlock those 2 frequencies let me know, if you have any questions for more information just email me.
Thanks, Harvey.
Hi I'd like to check some bits from your radio, can you please send me the img file? Send it here or directly to my mail as you prefere.

I would guess you need the access tones to work properly. CHIRP should be able to program you radio with no problem.

I downloaded Chirp and have what I assume is the last stable build. However, I just got my radio, which is a Baofeng UV-5RA with BFB297 firmware. I went back to the website expecting to have this build since the one I downloaded 0.2.3 does not have my handheld. I went to the repository and couldn’t find a link that included mine.
Where can I find this one as, I’d at least like to have the build which is 2012-2221222 (I think).
Regards,
Max

I have the same problem. We need the access tone they've set to open the squelch. I can't find any one where I work (I volunteer at a museum) who knows what the tone is.

You can scan for the tone when someone is transmitting.
Also you will need to know the repeater offset or the input frequency if using a repeater

Bret thanks for this. I didn’t know about that feature of the radio. Is there any criteria which would determine if they use CTCSS or DCS ?

Ken, Just scan for both. I don't know about where you are located, but looking at radioreference.com for my area, the use of the older CTCSS is still more likely to be used than DCS. There are also fewer CTCSS tones to scan than DCS codes. So I would start by scanning CTCSS. If the odds are in your favor and it is found to be CTCSS, you won't have to scan DCS at all.
Also remember that if you are trying to find the tone/code to access a repeater, you have to listen/scan the frequency that the repeater users transmit on to determine the tone/code. In this case I would do the scanning in VFO/frequency mode listening to the frequency I would normally transmit on.

Bret I haven’t had a chance to try this with a live signal yet, but just looking at the steps when I go MENU 1 1 it displays “R-CTCS OFF” and when I press menu to activate the mode the voice says “CTCSS” but it still displays “R-CTCS OFF”. Is this the correct behaviour? The same for menu 10. If it displays “OFF” when you activate it how do then turn Menu 10/11 OFF as per the instructions. Sorry if I’m missing something blatantly obvious here.
