While programming radio all went well with download of factory setting but radio locked up after upload of local settings. radio lightes up fine with 787.314 upper & 109.747 lower reading. No buttons work except flashlight, volume/on/off & call brings up 65.000 FM?? pulled battery for a few days, nada! Is there a master reset? What to do? Apprecite some help. Thanks Don W1DAS
This may be the same for your radio. I'll include the source after. To perform a FULL Reset 1.Turn on the radio and press the MENU button. 2.Press the UP and DOWN arrow key to select RESET (Menu Item 40). 3.Press MENU to choose RESET. 4.Press the DOWN arrow key to choose ALL. 5.Press MENU. The radio will display SOURCE? 6.Press MENU to confirm. The radio will display WAIT... for a few seconds, then beep twice to confirm reset is complete. 7.The radio will revert to Chinese language mode. Reset is complete.

Don I very much suspect that your problem is the extreme expansion of the programming limits. Most of these radios will tolerate a small excursion beyond the specified limits at reduced compliance to their specifications that are not legal (if the radio is legal to transmit in your country). If you can reset yours, check the legalities first and do NOT abuse your license to transmit. Thank you Fred VA6FRM Canada

Neither 787.314 or 109.747 are valid settings (they are out of the radios factory 130.000-180.000 MHz and 400.000-521.000 MHz band limits. They also don't conform to a valid STEP -- 2.5k, 5.0K, 6.25K, 10.0K, etc). Under normal circumstances CHIRP won't let you enter them directly into the spreadsheet style memory editor.
No buttons work except flashlight, volume/on/off & call brings up 65.000 FM??
Do you have the keypad locked (a little key symbol to the left of the battery level indicator)? The keypad lock is toggled on and off by a long press of the [#] key or automatically activated by a setting in the factory and CHIRP programming software?

The menu 40 (RESET) is not a "full" reset. It basically only erases the 128 memories, programs channels 0 and 128 to the firmware defaults and sets the menus to their firmware defaults (which are not the same as they were from the factory. Any other corrupted memory that could be affecting the radio would not be "reset".
The only "master reset" is to upload the very first successful download that you made and stored as a backup. If you didn't keep a copy of your first successful download as a "backup" for just such problems, your best bet is to find someone that the exact "real" firmware version (not the "fake" firmware version that show when the radio is powered on while the [3] key is pressed) which can only be determined using CHIRP.
What to do?
Upload an older "good" image from this radio or an image from another radio with the exact same firmware version.
Apprecite some help. Thanks Don W1DAS
