[chirp_users] UV5R gmrs not recognized but instead Radioddity 8G!
Obtained this radio and attempted to download using Chirp, but was not successful since Chirp doesn't see UV5R(gmrs). Vendor denies this, either Chirp or vendor is in error.

You are likely choosing the wrong vendor/model or you don't have a working connection between the computer and radio. It sounds like the radio is a UV-5G variant so once you have confirmed that your programming cable is connected properly (compatible driver loaded, 2-pin plug fully inserted, etc) I would recommend that you try: Radioddity / UV-5G.
