[chirp_users] 20160209 Build Issue
Filippi Marco worked on issue 3281 (Copying Special Channels), and I was under the impression it would be in this build. So I installed the 20160209 build. But my FT857D is no longer able to download to Chirp. I checked communications with another freeware product, and COM3 is working by directional. Attached is the Chirp log.
1. Is 3281 issue fixed in this build?
2. What is my current issue with the inability to download?
As an FYI, I previously attempted to load a Boafeng software program for the GT-3TP, which did not work. But I did the full install of Chirp afterwards.
Thanks for you help again.

- Is 3281 issue fixed in this build?
Yes, from the build announcement:
[Marco Filippi iz3gme.marco@gmail.com] [FT8x7] Allow pasting memories to special channels
- What is my current issue with the inability to download?
Nothing changed in that driver, so it must be something environmental. Indeed, your debug log just indicates that it's a communication issue.
I'll let the Windows experts here comment on things to check for and try (drivers, rebooting, etc).

I've been playing around.
It appeared that the Prolific driver was not in my device manager. So I attempting to do all sort of things. I uninstalled those other programs (baefeng, HRD). I tried to execute the "fake driver" on the miklor site (even though I believe I have a valid FTDI chip). I also uninstalled Chip and installed 2/9/16 again. Every time I plug in my cable, it does not find the driver in my drive, and when it uses Microsoft, it creates a standard USB Serial driver.
When I drilled down into updating the driver, and changed the highlight from FTDI to Prolific, my operating (Windows 7) crashed and had to go into the automatic repairing of itself.
Any sort of brainstorming will help.
Thanks

Well, I had some success. Even though the Prolific device did not show up under device manager, but I was able to down load and up load to the radio.
BUT, with the 02/09/16 build, I was not able to copy the Special Memories. Sure would like to be able to do that and paste back.

Hi Walt please try to be more specific: What happen (or not happen) exactly when you try to copy the Special Memories? What are the steps required to reproduce the problem?
Also see if there's any error indication in debug.log and send it to me. For instructions on how to get the log see http://chirp.danplanet.com/projects/chirp/wiki/How_To_Report_Issues#Getting-...

Marco,
Sorry about not being specific.
Steps were:
1. Open existing saved CSV 2. Created second tab 3. Started Chirp 4. Downloaded from radio 5. Clicked Special Channels 6. Cntl-A for select all (also repeated this step, with selective lines which did not include the numbered memories) 7. Cntl-C for copy 8. Move to A1 cell of second tab in CSV, and Cntl-V for paste 9. Error was Microsoft double beep indicator and nothing got pasted.
My radio is on my boat, so it will be another hour before I'm there to try the 2/10/16 build. I will attempt to the paste (8) into a word or text document to see if it was an Excel issue (It was getting late, and I should have thought about that last night).

Ah ... now I understand! I don't think copy and past can work with excel!! (consider I'm not at all a microsoft guru)
But it works (at least is supposed to work) from and to a CSV opened in Chirp.
Try this: 1 start Chirp 2 menu File - Open 3 in the file type selection box, which is close to Open button, select CSV Files then go to your existing saved CSV and open it 4 download from radio as usual 5 go to the new tab 6 select some (or all) special channels 7 copy 8 go back to the CSV tab 9 select a line and paste
optionally you can create a blank CSV in Chirp with File - New.
If you plan to use excel to modify CSV remember that the file must have the correct structure to be managed by Chirp and Excel is known to alter files, ask to microsoft experts for details.

OK now I understand, I can only work with CSV within Chirp
So I was able to cut and paste, and I was able to save the CSV with the special channel settings.
But it does not use the special channel name as the Location. such as VFOa-18M getting numbered to location 12 (it numbers all of them). So if I paste it back to the special channel line, it replaces VFOa-18M with the number.
Therefore I cannot up load the results to the radio. Also, the special name cannot be put into the CSV spreadsheet (with excel) and opened by Chirp because location needs to be numeric.
I guess I will have to settle with the single editing characteristics in Chirp for the Special Channels.
Thanks again for your help

Hi Walt
2016-02-10 2:09 GMT+01:00 Walt Childson wchildson@gmail.com:
I've been playing around.
It appeared that the Prolific driver was not in my device manager. So I attempting to do all sort of things. I uninstalled those other programs (baefeng, HRD). I tried to execute the "fake driver" on the miklor site (even though I believe I have a valid FTDI chip).
If you have an FTDI chip, you don't need Prolific drivers.
