[chirp_users] Programming
Gentlemen............I have spent the last 3 days trying to understand how to program my UV5R. The cable will communicate with the radio using the BaoFeng CD so I think that's not the issue. I have spent hours reading all the "must read first" literature and gleaning very little. In attempting to use Chirp I click on the radio title on the top. Download to Radio is not highlighted but Upload From Radio is but when I click on that I get an error msg saying the radio did not respond. I'm going nowhere. Can someone pse adv me how to bring up the programming page and how to use it to program basic repeater and simplex freqs before my wife asks me to move out ??

Visit the miklor.com/uv5r/ website. Read the page about USB cables and drivers. Also look at the page on errors.

Still could be a driver issue. If you have a Prolific cable especially. The Windows 7 driver we all use is version 3.2.0.0. And the XP driver is version 2.0.2.1 if my memory serves. We as a list have found problems with other drivers even if the driver works with the factory software. Visit http://www.miklor.com/COM/UV_Drivers.php for the tried and true drivers. While you are there do a little reading.

Hi
First have you read your manual on cloning? Some radios will send automaticlly when you click download from radio, others need certain keys pressed to command the radio to send memory contents to Chirp. If you do not do that, you can see that message. Hopefully you will hear from someone who has that rig and can help.

The UV5R does not need any buttons pressed on the radio. If the cable is good and the computer has the right USB to serial driver, clicking appropriate menu commands in CHIRP will get the communication going to or from the radio.
