[chirp_users] CHIRP and VX-6: impossible to upload from Mac
Hi all,
I am quite new to this community so greetings to everyone.
Downloading from the radio to the Mac goes just smooth. On the other hand it is impossible from OS X to upload an img file to the VX-6 since it deeply crashes OS X and the only solution is to press and hold the power button (chirp-daily-20201014 and High Sierra).
I detailed the issue while updating this bug https://chirp.danplanet.com/issues/5543 but I was wondering if anyone had similar issues or has some bright ideas.
Thanks,
Giulio

Thanks, Jim. I checked the purchase I did three years ago and this is the cable https://www.ebay.it/itm/191915484997 I have no more info and actually now it reads that it is Win compatible without any mention to Mac. I am pretty sure I already used it back then also with the Mac but eventually just with Windows.
Anyway I can get more info?
The reply to "ls /dev/cu*” is /dev/cu.Bluetooth-Incoming-Port /dev/cu.usbserial Not sure this helps either.
Thanks,
Giulio IU0BMW
Ah, I might have also this lying somewhere but VX-6 is not mentioned https://www.amazon.it/dp/B014PA8UAC/ref=pe_3310731_185740161_TE_item
Thanks

The above ( /dev/cu.usbserial ) indicates that you have a programming cable with a Prolific type USB-to-Serial chip. Genuine Prolific chips are very rare in programming cable so the likelihood of your chip being an unauthorized copy is very high. In that case you need to purchase and use a 3rd party device driver. This is the one I bought and installed on my macBook Air to use with my large variety of programming cables with a "Prolific" chip.

Ah, interesting. I was taking for granted that driver-wise I was fine since I could download from the radio and I already installed the following ones as suggested in other discussions I read: - PL2303_MacOSX_v1.6.4_20200911.zip from http://www.prolific.com.tw/US/supportDownload.aspx?FileType=56&FileID=13... (I also tried PL2303HXD_G_Driver_v2_0_0_20191204.zip from http://www.prolific.com.tw/US/ShowProduct.aspx?p_id=229&pcid=41 with similar results) - RTSystemsMacDriversV24.zip from http://www.rtsystems.us/drivers/
In case it may shed more light, the attachment shows the response of the “Serial Detect” app from mac-usb-serial.com.
I will give a try to their driver and report back. Apparently with the Sunday sale.
Thanks again,
Giulio IU0BMW
Hi Jim and all,
A doubt about the mac-usb-serial.com.
I wrote them a couple of times with a question on the availability of the legacy version without receiving a reply. As you know, is the site still on or is there someone on the list from their group?
My point is: if I proceed with the payment, should I be able to access in automatic also the older High Sierra driver or should they send it manually? On the site it is not clear and since they don’t reply…
Thanks,
Giulio

Hi all,
So, just for the record of the list.
As updated on the bug list https://chirp.danplanet.com/issues/5543, finally I had some time for testing, I went with the "PL-2303 Driver (legacy)" from https://www.mac-usb-serial.com ("Driver_PL2303_OS_X_10.13-3.1.5.pkg") and it works just fine.
Thanks.
