[chirp_users] Fwd: Running CHIRP on a mobile phone
Hi my friend!

We use the CHIRP program to work with our radios. This great program can run on Windows, Linux, MAC OS. But I would like to be more mobile and run CHIRP on my phone.
Imagine how cool it would be!
I want to start with one radio, Baofeng UV-5R. Because I have it and I can test the application with one.
New devices will be added according to my ability and ability to test this application.
I will trust that I will succeed.
To be honest, I'm not an expert in mobile app development. But I will become one!
And developing CHIRP for a smartphone would be a good practice that would benefit everyone.
I would like to write such an application and would appreciate any help with this.

USB hardware requires drivers, does android include a driver for a serial to USB chip like the prolific or FTDI chip? I suspect not.

Some android devices do include OTG serial device support. Most of the newer ones do.

Yes, Android does allow serial USB communications, so should not be a problem. Indeed I just purchased an Anytone 578 and I noticed that they have an app that allows you to do changes to the CP from the phone, you can go through the bluetooth connection or the USB connection to the radio. Have not tried it out yet but looking to give it a try.
Sad to say that iOS is probably not going to allow this to happen, a shame but unless the author wants to pay Apple big bux he probably cannot get it done on that platform.
