[chirp_users] Trying to upload to BaoFeng radio
I haven’t used my Chirp app in over a year and I am trying to add a repeater to my BaoFeng BF-F8 channels. I was able to open the .img file and make the addition, but I am unable to either download or upload from or to the radio. My Chirp app says it’s 0.4.0
Do I need to upgrade Chirp? If so where and how? Or do I need to look for something else?
Thanks, Whit
Download the latest daily build of CHIRP and that will take care of your issues.

Todd,
I am using an Apple computer (iMac). The link you reference opens Windows on an old Parallels app I am no longer using. How can I get the Apple update?
Thanks, Whit

Thanks, Nick. I did as you suggested. Downloaded python (again) and then chirp-daily-20150814. Same results. I can open the .img file, but I can’t upload to the radio or download from the radio. I get an error message that says "could not open port /dev/cu.PL2303-00001014: [Errno 2] No such file or directory: '/dev/cu.PL2303-00001014’
Any other suggestions?

Did you find the right driver for your cable? I basically had to try them all before getting the one that worked.

First, I don't own a Mac or use a Mac, so weigh my advice accordingly...
The chip in most programming cables that report having a Prolific type chip is an unauthorized copy. The latest Prolific device driver is (intentionally) not compatible with unauthorized copies. You most likely have to replace your installed driver with one of the generic drivers listed on the "documentation" pages.
http://chirp.danplanet.com/projects/chirp/wiki/MacOS_Tips
Others have recommended purchasing this compatible 3rd party driver.

I'll look at that, but I bought my cable from the manufacture when I bought the radio. It is not an after market product.

It doesn't matter. Most all programming cables made with "Prolific" type chips do not have "genuine" Prolific chips in them no matter how you got them. The reality of it is that if you have a programming cable with a Prolific type chip you either must play these driver games or use Linux (or CHIRP Live CD) or purchase a programming cable with a different USB-to-TTL chip (such as the popular FTDI chip).

The version of CHIRP you are using is over a year old. If you are using windows, the Latest Daily Build is recommended. http://www.miklor.com/COM/UV_CHIRP.php

Thank you, John. You guys are always so helpful and prompt. I attempted to do what you suggested. Went to the URL and downloaded the .exe file that was labeled “LATEST” It opened up a Vista window through an old version of Parallels. I use chirp on an iMac and I no longer employ Parallels to work with windows programs. Perhaps I downloaded the wrong file. There are several options. Where did I go wrong?

I'm not that familiar with the Mac, so I may not be able to assist. I believe for the Apple, you need the app.zip file.
