[chirp_users] Linking Both A and B channel banks on UV-5R
Re: UV-5R
Question: Does anyone know how to link both A and B channel banks together, so when you change one, the other follows along?
Why?: Many of us put the name (Alpha tag) of the freq in A Bank and the freq (Numeric Value) in B Bank. It would be nice to have the radio retain memory channel compatibility when changing one or the other.
Thank you in advance,
Stan

Hi Stan,
The UV-5R only has 1 "bank" of 128 (0-127) memories. The radio's 2 display lines (A and B) have equal access this 1 bank. Except that they both must be either in MR/channel mode or VFO/frequency mode, each display line is independent from the other. They cannot be automatically synchronized to the same memory. If you want them to both on the same memory, you have to select them both manually.
To get this SYNC capability in a Baofeng like radio you need to get a BTech UV-5X3 from Baofeng Tech (the radio dealer in the USA). The BTech line of 2 and 4 band mobile radios also has this SYNC feature. The lower cost and similarly named Radioddity/Baofeng UV-5RX3 is just a UV-5R with the 220 MHz band added. It does not have SYNC or any of the other added features of the BTech model.

Jim, Thanks. Just what I thought. I guess you can't expect much from a $25 radio. Still a good value though. Stan

There unfortunately appears to be no automatic way to do this. I made a crude work-around by placing a label on the radio that says always keep A and B the same.
