[chirp_users] Luiton radios
I've ask several times about adding Luiton radios to chirp and one of your responses in another thread stated how busy you are and I get that. I was just wondering if you could take the two minutes to let us Luiton users know if you plan at all to add it to the Chirp radio list. That way I'll at least know and can explore other avenues which for me means sending the radio back because actually there is no other options except to spend the $50 at RMS to get support. Living on SS won't let me do that. I hope I don't sound too aggressive because I don't mean to be, Just would like some answer. Thanks

There are many developers who have contributed code to Chirp, and we're still welcoming more. The response you're referring to was from Jim personally. Jim is one of Chirp's most active developers.

If you don't see anything about support for your radio, it probably means no one has tried to develop support for it yet. Generally, support for a radio doesn't come until a ham who owns that radio decides to add support themselves. From my code submission history, you can infer that my shack has a few Yaesu and Kenwood radios :-). This means your odds for support are best if you pick a popular radio--there's a larger chance someone else will want to add it to Chirp. I've never even heard of Luiton, so you can bet I won't be adding that one myself!
If Chirp support is important to you, I recommend limiting your radio purchases to those already on the supported list: http://chirp.danplanet.com/projects/chirp/wiki/Supported_Radios
Or if you're anything like me, the first thing you do after pulling a new radio out of the box if to start sniffing its protocol to add support for it to Chirp!
