[chirp_users] YET ANOTHER ?
New user but had my UV5R working great. Until I started Chirp and adjusted some freqs that worked great. However I noticed it was very quiet. After checking all works good Except no speaker volume. Many years ago I was a 2 way tech for Motorola and learned that when u plug in an ear bud and hear radio great but remove earphone nothing, it is likely a bad earphone jack. PLEASE TELL ME IT IS SOMETHING ELSE!! Thanks, Sarge
Sarge,
If you have one of the very new radios with N5R-20 firmware, you cannot set BEEP to OFF. If you do, you won't hear anything. You must set BEEP back to ON and leave it that way.

Download from your radio using CHIRP, save the channels and settings to a .img file and either email it to me direct or attach it to this discussion. I will take a look at it.

If it’s the microphone jack, just may just need to be cleaned, not replaced.
Take a look at http://www.miklor.com/uv5r/FAQ FAQ #81
Hopefully, this helps.

My son had this issue also and it was the contact in the jack, your mileage may vary. It’s probably not a difficult repair but his was replaced under warranty so we didn’t bother. Out of three UV5R’s that we owned we lost two chargers, one speaker/mic jack and an entire radio that all died in under 18 months.
