Re: [chirp_users] Virus warning

Take the warning with a grain of salt Kerry.

For the second time I’ve gotten a warning from McAfee that there was a virus in the daily download, this time in chirp-daily-20210919-installer.exe. The first time I saw this behavior was with the 20210826 daily, before I was on the list to report it.
The reported virus is Real Protect-EC!16F97D3AFE24
Not sure if it’s real or a false positive but I figured I should let you know. The file has been quarantined on my system.

Thanks Nick, will do! I'm considering getting a better virus detection program sooner rather than later though.

Yes, but it is VERY basic. AVG and Avast are free and both ranked in the top 10 last time I checked. I recommend AVG to all my customers.

A few years back I got a nasty virus on my computer using AVG, in the old days, Microsoft did not step up to the plate for protecting its system. But since then, I am confident that Microsoft Defender is as good as any, and is less invasive. I haven't had a computer virus in more than five years just using Defender. Defender is "deprecated."
Try Microsoft Security Essentials. I use that and Spybot S&D (version 1.6.0.30 - I shun 2.0 +)

I like AVG because it isn't as "chatty" as Avast. Seems Avast is trying to get you to upgrade about ten times a day...

Avast bought out avg in 2016. It’s pretty much the same software so it really doesn’t matter which you choose. Employee here.

No doubt! Whatever, I'll find a better one for my little laptop and my other computers too.

Well, except that this exact nagging is what's making me look for an alternative, and switch away from Avast. When the popups don't have any means to dismiss them, at least on Mac, it becomes *intensely* annoying.

Soon it will be assimilated with Norton as well. Resistance is futile.
