I personally have no problems with it, must be operator error. Change the com port, it's not that hard. Your spelling and grammar are atrocious. I'm not sure if you know how to tell the whole world anything. If you don't like the software, don't use it. It's free anyway. Why are you complaining about something that is free? well, I don't now about him, however, I have had a continual gripe from day one.
the software is not accessible to the blind on either windows or OS X. the interface does not meet any of the API requirements for accessibility.
My previous attempts to communicate with the author were non-responsive. that was 3 years ago. I recently tried a daily build on my windows machine. the content pane in the installer was invisible to the screen readers I tried (narrator, NVDA and JAWS). so, still not accessible.
On oS X the application pane was largely invisible to voiceover. so, the app is unusable there as well. Now, I know this is a daily decent project, but more blind people are becoming hams, so our population is no longer in the niche category. perhaps now would be a good time to update the interface to make it more accessible. just suggesting.

I just wanted to say that I have used chirp for several years on many rigs without any problem. I started using windows 7 and upgraded to windows 10 and it still works well! the only time I've had any issues is when I tried to use a junk cable. Yes that is what I was thinking, I have a blind buddy that uses a lot of things on Linux because the others do not give him the support that he gets there.
I did not know why, but if it is because MS and APL do not have the linkage from python to the speech stuff, then that sounds like an OS issue and not a Chirp issue, by way he did use Chirp too. I think he is no longer active, but I am betting that all of his stuff is still Linux.

hmmm. ok, thats relatively new then. last time I tried chirp on any linux distro with a screen reader, some of the controls were unlabeled.
btw, python has accessibility libraries for all of the major OS platforms already. It just takes installing them. btw, python code is accessible on OS X. Utorrent is coded almost completely in python and I can use it on my old macbook here with very little difficulty.
now, what I do know is that accessibility libraries need to be installed and used in the IDE when creating applications. if not, the results can be a pain for folks like me.

Heck I was the first guy that used it a "few" years ago when one of the developers sent me a version to reset the center frequency on 60 meterson an FT-817ND when the FCC changed it. How does that make the software junk. Just use com1 to 3 then. I doubt you use all 3 comm ports while trying to program the radio. If CHIRP is junk then the software that your radio manufacturer makes is even more junk because everyone who owns various brand radios uses CHIRP.
Also CHIRP is free and you didn't have to pay for it so what's the beef. And why come on a forum talking all disrespectful when this could've just been a question to the group and you would've gotten your answers instead of waiting three days or whatever you were babbling about.

As a newbie, I can tell you all I am very thankful for your work! I just programmed my first radio last weekend in my first radio as I begin my journey to get my tivcket, I am now able to listen to others! I look forward to getting my "ticket" and being able to use the radio!
I found the software easy to use and the directions simple. Worked the first time I used it!

Every time I have used Chirp, any issues were from my learning curve. That's on me, not anything from the program that could be done better. I challenge you to find a better program, with better support at any cost.
You will get further in life, if you learn to channel your emotions to solving problems, and not blaming the rest of the world.

As a newbie, I can tell you all I am very thankful for all of the work that has been done here. I just programmed my first radio about 6 or 8 months and all the problems that I've had was my learning curve. Had it working the 4th or 5th time I went back thru everything. Besides, it's free, these people done this just to help others, If you don't like it maybe you just need to uninstall it, leave everyone here alone and stop being such an asshole.

People have tried to help you, I personally am using COM 5 so what you are saying is not true.
I also asked you if you were using a USB to Serial converter, and you did not answer me.
It's obvious, but perhaps you need someone to tell you: What you are saying is totally false.
I'm saying that because people who start believing what is false, really become confused and it's a frightening trip that sometimes is one from which they never return to sanity.
I hope you find your way. We're here to help about CHIRP but there are other places you can seek aid for the other problems which seem obvious at least to me.

Apparently you either aren't using CHIRP or aren't using the CHIRP I am familiar with. When I started using CHIRP back in 2012 it supported Windows serial ports COM1 through COM16. More than most any other factory software that I has experience with at the time. Not long after that CHIRP was updated and Windows version now has support for COM1 through COM256.
But CHIRP will only show you the COM ports that are currently available on your computer. It is your job to have a configured and properly working COM port on your computer.

Tell us:
1. What operating system and version you are using. CHIRP works on all platforms. I'm using Linux but it works on Mac and Windows as well. 2. Tell us what radio you are trying to program? If it's more then one, pick one so we can get that working first, the others will follow. 3. Tell us what kind of cable you are using. There are some problems with counterfeit cables - it's not a CHIRP problem but there are Chinese made adapters that use fake chips using the Prolific chip. The FTDI chip based cables work fine. The FTDI USB/RS-232 chips have also been counterfeited, tho' seemingly not in such great numbers.
Remember when FTDI released a driver that detected the fake parts and bricked 'em? After (I suspect a severe scolding for) using MS to distribute the driver, they released a follow-up that, like Prolific's, merely declines to work with counterfeit parts. (Least that's my recollection.)
