[chirp_users] Cannot get BF-F8HP Radio to communicate with Mac OS 10.8.5
I am new to Hand Held HAM radio and have a ton of trouble getting the radio to connect with the computer. Radio is BF-F8HP Operating system is Mac 10.8.5 I have installed everything Instructed to from the Chirp site. including the osx-pl2303 installer and the python runtime files
I start Chirp plug in the cable, and then the radio, and finally turn on the radio I then select Radio > Download from radio select Port (and there are several to select from:
1. /dev/cu.Bluetooth-modem 2. /dev/cu.Bluetooth-Serial-1 3. /dev/cu.Bluetooth-Serial-2 4. /dev/cu.Bluetooth-(myname)-Wireless-iAP 5. /dev/cu.Bluetooth-PDA-Sync
All of which result in 1. Chirp starts processing a gives error 16 Resource busy could not open port /dev/cu.Bluetooth-Modem 2. for serial-1 it appears to start cloning and then reports: radio did not respond 3. for serial-2 it appears to start cloning and then reports: radio did not respond 4. for Bluetooth (myname) Wireless-iAP it appears to start cloning and then reports: radio did not respond 5. could not open port /dev/cu.Bluetooth-PDA-Sync: [Errno 16] Resource busy: '/dev/cu.Bluetooth-PDA-Sync'
Could anyone help me here, thanks, Tom
Those are all bluetooth ports. The correct port will probably say something like /dev/cu.USB-Serial. Perhaps you need to find and install the correct driver.

Bob, Where would I start, I've tried chirp on two different Mac's and I believed I was using the correct drivers for each machine (each has different OS versions). I've gone to Miklor.com as well and believed I had the correct drivers per each respective operating system. Any other source I overlooked?

Hi Tom,

It appears that you do not have a compatible driver installed for your programming cable. Nothing with "bluetooth" in it would be the correct choice.
Like Windows users, the official Prolific drivers are designed to be incompatible with unauthorized Prolific chip copies. The workaround for Mac users (except for those running El Capitan) is to install one of the generic Prolific drivers referenced on the "MacOS_Tips" page.

Just for reference: https://amzn.com/B00HUB0ONK
I got this cable with my BF-F8HP in May, and it works splendidly on OSX 10.11 with no driver installation needed. The port simply shows up in the list. I specifically ordered that particular cable from that particular vendor on the advice of others who had success... who had also been frustrated with other cables. The temptation to order one of the cheaper ones was great, but for $20 I've never had any trouble, was well worth it.
