[chirp_users] Suggestions for mag-mount dual-band antenna
I'd appreciate suggestions from Baofeng users about mag-mount dual-band 2m / 70cm antennas that are working well. Of course a perfect antenna will be a great find, but if I have to prioritize, these will do:
* One choice >$60, one choice $60-$120 * Zero or minimal scratching * Perfect retention at air speeds <80 mph * 2m probably slightly higher priority * Receiving probably slightly higher priority for now * At least good transmitting
My unit is a UV-5RE Plus.
Thanks.
Pete,
My Baofeng sets came with two Nagoya antenna's weird enough I got two different ones a UT-102UV and a UT-106UV. I didn't had any time to test them out but I know for sure that they'll stick at 150 KM/H. As soon as I tested them I let you know.

I have this one:
http://www.amazon.com/Tram-1185-Amateur-Dual-Band-Antenna/dp/B0045EQUBK/ref=...
and so far it's been really great. I get nice reception and transmission local to my repeater (20 miles-ish). It may go even further; that's just what I've tested and experienced. I can't speak to scratching because I haven't looked on the roof lately. It's low gain but seems to work well with my UV-5R-AX+. I frequently get comments about "good audio". The annoying part was waiting for the adapter to come in from China.

Many thanks, Marthijn Soesbergen! The UT-106-UV is rated in miklor's table: http://www.miklor.com/COM/pdf/AntennaTestingW9MDB.pdf
The UT-102-UV is very inexpensive here -- ~ US$10 .

You might want to check out the MP Antenna Super-M Classic Mobile with a Larsen mag. mount. QST did a review a year or two ago, and, as I recall, it was mostly positive.

Pete, You are more than welcome. Since the Nagoya antennas I've got do have the right connector you can screw it straight on you HT. Top tip, turn your HT and not the wire. In that fashion you don't get loops.
I didn't knew that Miklor had a test on their site. So I have to thank you too.

Check this one out. I don't know if it has the right connector for your radio. If not, it should be available with another connector for which you can find an adapter cable. http://www.randl.com/shop/catalog/product_info.php?products_id=38434&osCsid=0iomgr61pn8fdos7srej96pm86 http://www.jetstream-usa.com/jtm2s.shtml
I have one with a BNC connector that I use with my BNC HTs and with SMA to BNC adapter on my Wouxun. Performance is good, don't know about 80MPH, tested good to 65-70.

There is some mag-mount dual-band antenna reviews at eHam.net: http://www.eham.net/reviews/detail/1920
BTW: never order from amazon.com and/or visit an HRO store to make a purchase without first visiting: eHam.net Reviews
Most of the time I just Google: Review (some product number) 90% plus of the time an early Google search hit will be at eHam.net
