[chirp_users] importing data files
I'm having trouble importing a CSV file into the img file I've up loaded from my FT-2900R. I'm using PCLINUX with the latest daily build (20151008). the error message is "Unknown file format". Any ideas or suggestions.

Hi Ken,
You "download" from your radio and "upload" to your radio.
How did you create your CSV file. It needs to be in a format that is compatible with CHIRP. The best way to know what that format is would be to export what is already in your radio to a CSV. Then you can edit that file to add you new channels.

Thank you for your help in the past. I'm still having trouble loading my radio. I down loaded from the radio 3 channels to chirp then I exported that to my spread sheet and copied my data file into the radio's file and saved it. Then I imported it back into chirp and I get a "No channels found" error message. Any ideas what I'm doing wrong? Thanks again.

Ken,
It is hard to say for sure. I would help if you would include your CSV file.
Most likely after you exported your channels to a CSV file, you changed the format of the CSV file so that it no longer compatible with CHIRP.

When I export from chirp some of the headers are rearranged and some header names are changed. I rearranged my data file to match what chirp was sending to my spread sheet and then copied into "chirp's" version on my spread sheet. Then saved it for importing into chirp. See files attached. The 2 meter... file reflects what the radio sends to chirp.

Ken,
You can't invent our own CSV format. You can't add columns or change the field types. You have to keep it in the format that CHIRP expects.
Location,Name,Frequency,Duplex,Offset,Tone,rToneFreq,cToneFreq,DtcsCode,DtcsPolarity,Mode,Power,TStep,Skip,Comment,URCALL,RPT1CALL,RPT2CALL
0, <- Location OK , <- Name OK 146.46, <- Frequency OK , <- Duplex OK , <- Offset OK None, <- Tone - this might need to be blank 100.0 Hz, <- rToneFreq - you can't add " Hz" to this field 100.0 Hz, <- cToneFreq - you can't add " Hz" to this field 23, <- DtcsCode OK NN, <- DtcsPolarity OK FM, <- Mode OK 5, <- this is TStep but you added a "Power" column. CHIRP CSV file don't support power. Hi, <- this must have been meant to be power. It is where TStep should be. , <- Skip OK , <- Comment OK , <- URCALL OK , <- RPT1CALL OK <- RPT2 CALL OK
You can't use Plus for + You can't use Minus for - If you want to know what the correct value is, program a channel normally and export it to see what it should look like. Don't guess or make up your own.
I don't think the columns have to be in a specific order. But if you change the headers around, you have to move the data to match.
If you don't want to use a column, I believe you can leave it out. For example, most Baofeng owners won't be using ",URCALL,RPT1CALL,RPT2CALL" so you can leave them off and remove the correct number of commas in the rows below.

Thank you very much for your input. I have adjusted my file as per your suggestions. Some of the frequencies that I need have the tone set to "TSQL" in the radio. When I load the radio into my computer Chirp will display "TSQL" with out any problem, but when I export the file to the spread sheet and edit it before importing it back to Chirp we have a problem. The values that the FT-2900R may have in the tone field are "tone, tsql, dcs, rv tn, off". Do you know what values Chirp allows in the tone field? Could this be a bug, the not accepting "tsql" from the spread sheet?

Probably all of the above. Program 5 channels with CHIRP using each of the 5 possible choices. Export to a CSV file. Look at the CSV file to see what you got.
