What I did was just hit command A to select All of the 20 channels
from one list
and made sure I added 5 more empty slots for a total of 30 to the target.
I then selected channel 11 and hit command V to paste but nothing
happend. Is that the wrong way?

You can select multiple channels at once for copy/paste.
You can renumber when you import so that they don't overwrite. That's
what the +1 +10 buttons are for.
