When you plug in a card reader, F: is the Drive number. This is totally unrelated to the Com Port. You need to open Device Manager on your computer.

I plugged a USB card reader into that port on the front of the computer and it says that port is F:
Then I plugged in the cable and it says nothing. Doesn't even recognize that port.
Its supposed to be the cable needed to connect my Btech 50+1 GMRS radio.
I saw a video on YouTube saying the correct cable has a chip inside of it. I bought the one recommended by Amazon for the radio.

As you can tell I am brand new to GMRS radio. I'm also 75 yrs old which isn't helping and I don't have a teenager.
I was in the Army Security Agency and used radios but that was years ago.
I know nothing really about GMRS.

The way to tell which port is being used in Device Manager, is either plug in the cable with device manager open, and see what appears, or unplug the cord with device manager open, and see what goes away.

Hmmm. Device Manager says: Port_#0003.Hub_#0001
When I copy and paste that into CHIRP I get an error message:
could not open port Port_#0003.Hub_#0001: [Error 2] The system cannot find the file specified

I downloaded CHIRP. Plugged my computer cable to a USB port on my computer and got an Error 3 message saying this port is not recognized. No driver. I use this port all the time. I purchased the cable from Amazon as being the one to buy for my Btech 50+1 radio.
Help would be appreciated.--Your pal. That sweet fella you love, Mr. Dos XX's himself, Dennis, Den, Denny, Dad, Pops, Grandpa, Uncle, Cousin, Mr. Mosley, Moe, Comrade, etc.
You are most likely choosing the wrong port. Which port does Device Manager show as the port assigned to your programming cable? That is the one you must use.
