I have attached two YouTube videos for your review regarding the new Baofeng Chirp cable.  The new cable referred to in the short video has a special chip in the cable that you need to purchase. The YouTube videos will explain everything well.

Subject: [chirp_users] Baofeng UV-5R

I’m VERY new at this so hope this question isn’t off base!  I have a new Baofeng UV-5R and have made my own cable to connect to it.  The cable I’ve made is a DB9F to 3.5mm and 2.5mm plugs.  The USB to serial adapter that I connect to is one that I’ve used with other things and works fine.

With the connectors in the radio the display comes up with a solid black dot matrix in the top frequency display and most of the info icons across the top.  When I try to read the radio with CHIRP, I can see some data communication on the lights of the USB/Serial interface and the radio display changes to almost normal but then goes in to transmit mode and everything stops.  I get an error indicating that “An error has occurred - Radio did not respond”.

I’m hoping someone can suggest some things to look at to further troubleshoot this!

Thanks
