Did you change the device driver? There seems to be a change that has taken place in the recent BF-888s radios. It has been reported that several radios are purchased in a batch, some program and some do not. One radio that did not program was sent to me for testing. Unfortunately it programmed fine here (programming cable containing a counterfeit Prolific chip and Windows 7 64-bit with older Prolific v3.2.0.0 device driver). So the recommended older driver works. The person that sent me the radio, Mark, solved his problem by purchasing a programming cable with an FTDI chip.
