Gooday
Can any please assist, the UV 5 R, 5 watt or 8 watt?
Wich one is te best?
Thank you
The 5 watt models have 2 transmit power levels (High, Low) The 8 watt models have 3 transmit power levels (High, Mid, Low)
See menu option 2 (TXP)
The 5 watt models usually have model names like UV-5R, BF-F8, GT-3, etc. Until recently most 8 watt models added a suffix to indicate the addition of the third TX power level.
UV-5RTP, GT-3TP, GT-5TP (tri-power) UV-5R7W (7 watts) BF-F8HP, UV-82HP (high power)
The Supported Radio Models list on the CHIRP home page generally indicates which models have 3 TX power levels (8 watts) by adding "(use BF-F8HP)" or "(use UV-82HP)" to the right of the model name in the listing.
Many of the 5 watt models come with Baofeng A-5R logo antenna (about 4.8" long and very stiff) which is considered to be a poor performer. The Baofeng V85 antenna (about 6.6" long and flexible), which comes stock on the Baofeng UV-82 series and a few of the UV-5R style 8 watt radios such as the BF-F8HP, is considered a decent performer for a stock antenna. This doesn't matter if you plan to replace the antenna with a better performing 3rd party antenna.
