Simple test press the tx an see if your red indicator light come on (if not it is not broadcasting) but I have noticed in some cases (if before you set it to off) it was at + or -, it will not reset to that same + or -, it will go to o in some repeater cases that need that + or - setting an the off set factor.

For the Baofeng UV-5R and variants……..when programming a simplex frequency channel…… will setting the Duplex option in CHIRP to “Off” result in suppressing the TX in simplex operations?
The reason for asking is as follows: I have several police and fire freqs programmed into my radios, i.e., simplex. I want to make sure that even if I make a mistake and hit the TX key, I will not TX on these freqs.
I have in the past programmed these memory channels using split mode and setting the TX on a dummy freq well away from the agency RX/TX freq.
Thanks for any help !!
