I have three Baofeng transceivers: UV-5RA; UV-82X; GT-3. I have been unable to program any of them and I was wondering if there are CHIRP fixes or suggestions? I've purchased two sets of programming cables and deleted Windows 8 and installed Windows 7 Pro since Windows 8 did not seem to work on any of these radios. Will wait until I hear from Chirp for my next approach.
Thank you,

Hi Don,
There are no fixes needed. CHIRP works fine as-is for all three of these radios and with both Windows 7 and Windows 8. For the UV-82X, you must be using a daily release and not the stable release.
Your most likely issue is not having the necessary driver installed. Most programming cables purchased for the radios that you have are made with a chip inside that is an unauthorized copy of a Prolific chip. The Windows Vista/7/8 automatically installed Prolific driver is intentionally written to not work with these unauthorized chips. You either have to purchase a cable with a genuine Prolific chip, or purchase one with a chip from a different vendor (like FTDI) or downgrade to an older Prolific driver that is compatible (my recommendation).
A link for the driver and instructions for installing it are on the miklor.com website (there are lots of other help for these radios on this website, too).

Instructions for getting started with CHIRP are here.
