The trouble with Windows updating drivers come in with programming cables that have fake Prolific chips in them. The latest drivers cause those cables to not work. If Device Manager shows the cable to be a Prolific cable, try rolling back the driver to 3.2.0.0. This driver can be found at Miklor Radio Information Site - Miklor
